This website is about my Word counter that I have programmed in my spare time and some other odds
and ends that I would like to let the world know. I hope you find this website useful for applications
that need to know the frequency of words in the English language.
This website also put in practices some things I learnt at university including Software Engineering,
Web development, XML and database. Since I am taking off six months from university due to illness,
this will keep me occupied for a while.
Help yourself to the data and programs presented on this site. Please don't plagiarise, give credit where
credit is due.
Also if you have time send me an email and tell me what you use the data for. I will be very interested.
Also there is heaps of other junk on this website to peruse through at your leisure. Check out the
Other Project section to see what else is on the website.
419 Eater Anti-Scam
# July the 2nd 2006 | Fun for the whole family
With all the scam emails around its nice to see the common user getting one up over the scammers.
419 Eater has been a legend in the growing Computer Security. There is
a sense of Heroism as he/she scams the would be scammers.
His/Her latest pull resulted in getting
some very nice wood carvings from the West Coast of Africa imported...for free. See how they pull it off.
Changes in Website
# June the 30th 2006 | We're speaking in French
After much stuffing around I finally got the French Frequency results on this website, with some difficulties. I had
to change many aspects of the website to allow the menu system to work in multiple depths of the website. So I do have
some absolute references in my menu system now, making it about one second harder to export to a new site.
The French Frequencies can be found here. The
Word Frequency result page has also been changed so it may be a little while before the search engines filter their
changes through their engine.
Almost Finished
# June the 22nd 2006 | So long, Farewell, I have to say Goodbye
Well my two exams are down and pretty well done to their full potentual. OOP was a snitch to do as with all things OOP
this semester. The most surprising exam was Knowledge Base Systems exam. My friend and I thought it was going to be a
really difficult exam. I had an image of our lecturer searching through the dark recesses of his notes to pick out the
most obscure questions imaginable.
In the end the exam was a really good one. After five minutes into the exam I just raised my eyes to heaven and
said, "Thank you God!". Don't get me wrong, we still had to work for it but I am confident that I will go well.
But enough about me, the Word counting. The previous news item was saying silly things like that special symbols were
not been parsed by the engine properly. Silly me. I was using the wrong version of a program and was creating an XML
document that was not compatible with my XSLT style sheet. Feel sort of stupid now. Because I have been studying for my
exam not much else has been done on it.
I am also going to be looking for a new host for this website soon as likely the Uni is going to boot me off the account
soon. I'll just have to find a new host that can offer 100mb of space with no stupid ads to put on my website.
French Dictionary
# June the 12th 2006 | French Words
With all my Assignments finished I have started Ripping apart French text files and collecting their frequencies.
There has been some issues so far, to start with I cannot get the XML style sheet to display special characters, such as Ġ.
This suprised me because one of the selling points of XML/XSLT is their compatability
with international characters.
At the moment I am only outputting the results to a text file, which will go up on the site in a few days.
Also tonight is the defining moment in Australian Soccer (Football for the rest of the world) when we take on the
Asian football power Japan. Australia is actually got shorter odds than
Japan to win and if we take a physical approach to the game like we did
against the Netherlands, we have a really good chance.
Word Security Patch
# June the 5th 2006 | Set your Clocks
